What's Ahead for Interest Rates
Michael Yardney's Property Update - 01 Sep. 23

Dale Gillham's expert commentary was featured in Michael Yardney's Property Update. 66% of experts in this month’s Finder RBA Cash Rate Survey, believe interest rates have peaked with almost all experts confident the RBA will hold the cash rate in September. An overwhelming majority of panellists (97%, 37/38) believe the RBA will hold the cash rate at 4.10% in September. The government has proposed spending more than $3 billion in incentives to state governments to build 1.2 million new homes over the next 5 years. Three quarters of the panel (77%, 24/31) believe that this policy will actually boost housing supply. This comes as Finder’s Consumer Sentiment Tracker data from August revealed 27% don’t believe they will ever be able to afford a home. Dale Gillham from Wealth Within said whilst supply will increase, it will not solve the big issue of housing shortages across Australia...

Has the Interest Rate Rising Cycle Run Its Course?
Elite Agent - 01 Sep. 23

Two-thirds of experts believe interest rates have peaked, while 97 per cent say the Reserve Bank of Australia will keep the cash rate steady at the next meeting. Since May 2022, the cash rate has climbed four per cent to 4.1 per cent. But according to Finder’s latest RBA survey, interest rates could have reached their terminal rate. The panel also weighed in on the Federal Government’s proposal to spend more than $3 billion to incentivise state governments to build 1.2 million homes over the next five years. Three quarters of the panel (77 per cent) believe this policy will actually boost housing supply. Wealth Within’s Dale Gillham said supply would increase but it would not solve the housing shortage...

How Does Fund Manager Profit Taking Affect My SMSF?
Australian Financial Review - 31 Aug. 23

According to Dale Gillham, founder and chief analyst at share trading educator Wealth Within, the important thing to remember when comparing fund managers to smaller SMSF investors is that managers have mandates to manage their funds in a manner described in their documentation which can require them to adjust their portfolios at certain times. An example is passive exchange-traded funds, or ETFs, that need to rebalance their portfolios quarterly in line with how the ASX indexes are adjusted. EFTs can dominate some stock holdings and some may re-weight them at different times depending on their method. For an SMSF investor, says Gillham, while these periods may cause some short-term volatility both up and down, this can largely be ignored especially for those intending to hold their shares over the long term. In some cases, says Gillham, despite announcing record profits some share prices may fall heavily while those that announce record losses can rise...

What ChatGPT Gets Wrong About Investing
Money Magazine - 25 Aug. 23

Money Magazine ran an article based on chief analyst Dale Gillham's weekly market wrap and here is what he had to say - Unless you have been living on a deserted island, you would know that we are confronted with the doom and gloom messages of an impending stock market crash almost every day. I typed the words 'stock market' into a YouTube search and the first five videos were all about the impending doom surrounding the stock market. Yet none of these videos were aimed at helping the viewer understand what to do in the event the stock market does pull back or crash. The other big issue that the world seems to be focused on is artificial intelligence (AI), with many asking questions or looking for solutions from ChatGPT. I did what I suspect many are already doing, which is to ask ChatGPT to write a blog post on the three things I could do to avoid a stock market crash. The output was seriously alarming, as none of what it suggested was good information or advice on how to manage or avoid a crash...

Mastering Market Volitility: Your Reporting Season Guide
Proactive Investors New - 18 Aug. 23

Wealth Within co-founder and analyst Dale Gilliam explains why investors should wait until after the volatility of reporting season to review their portfolio. Right now, the Australian stock market is in the middle of reporting season with companies sharing their full-year results. While it provides investors with insights into a company's financial health, it can also be a very challenging time for investors, as stock prices tend to be very volatile. In some cases, despite announcing record profits some companies fall heavily while those that announce record losses rise. It all comes down to the expectations from the big end of town and whether the company has missed expectations. In other words, if the big end of town believes a company’s profit should have been higher, they may sell the stock. In other words, if the big end of town believes a company’s profit should have been higher, they may sell the stock...
